About the Institute

Who we are

The Global Ophthalmic Institute is an international clinical academy and non-governmental organisation dedicated to overcoming geographic inequalities in medical education. Developed to address critical shortages in the global eye health workforce, the institute facilitates direct access to peer-reviewed ophthalmic training, advanced clinical insights, and practical educational tools.

Our Story

The Global Ophthalmic Institute was founded to confront a critical reality in global public health: the profound disparity in access to high-quality ophthalmic education. Traditional training models and educational pipelines frequently fail to reach the regions bearing the highest burden of avoidable blindness and visual impairment.

Born out of a clear calling to serve communities in need through humanitarian eye care, the institute was established as a borderless clinical academy and non-governmental organisation. By shifting from local limitations to a globally accessible framework, we bridge the gap between elite academic curricula and remote clinicians, equipping local eye care workforces with the sustainable skills needed to elevate patient care on the ground.

Our Mission

To strengthen eye care workforce capacity in low- and middle-income countries through facilitating accessible clinical and public health education, in service of resilient, equitable health systems.

Our Vision

A world where underserved communities are supported by a well-trained, self-sustaining local eye care workforce, eliminating avoidable visual impairment.
